Demystifying the Book of Revelation

In Revelation 2:20–23, we find a reference to Jezebel in the message to the church in Thyatira. In 1 Kings chapters 16 through 22, we find the account of this woman. When we encounter the four horsemen of Revelation, several questions arise: Who are they? Do they represent real individuals who will appear in the future? When will they emerge? As in other passages in Revelation, there are many theories about who or what the four living creatures represent. Knowing this, we must be careful not to say that all interpretations are correct, or that everyone simply has their own point of view, or even that certain biblical texts are impossible to interpret. No—this is not true. If the Bible, as the Word of God, was given to us as a rule of faith and practice then we must also believe that its message can be understood.

In Revelation 13, we find the description of two beasts: one rising out of the sea and another rising out of the earth. This is not the first time the Bible describes beasts. In the book of the prophet Daniel, chapter 7 presents four beasts coming up out of the sea: one like a lion, another like a bear, another like a leopard, and a fourth with a terrifying appearance.
